Making a Memory Book for Shelli with This & That

I wanted to share with you today a cool project using the Stampin’ Up! This and That journal that was made as a gift last week for Shelli Gardner by the Founder’s Circle attendees. Since I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read my blog and I’m guessing she got our gift already anyway, it should be safe to share a bunch of pictures.

So, the backstory is – Shelli was in a horseback riding accident a month ago and suffered major injuries (fractured wrist, pelvis, and clavicle).  She has months of healing and rehabilitations and because of that, she wasn’t able to join us at Founder’s Circle as she does each year.  Everyone attending was sad she couldn’t make it but wanted her to know that we were thinking of her, so someone suggested we put together a book for her.  Patty Bennett offered to bring This and That journals and Sharon Armstrong took over gathering notes and printing photos to put in the book.

This is the fabulous Miss Sharon with the finished book.  So cute!

Now, I have a This & That journal… I even took it with me on a trip one time.  But I was so used to scrapbooking by having to have the photos to start with, that I was really challenging myself to figure out using my book.  If you haven’t seen it, this is what a journal looks like:

The outside:

The inside (and a bunch of the Epic Day This & That suite):

But look at how pretty it gets when you add cards, notes, and photos!  Even without getting fancy with embellishments and tape –

I love that quote!

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.  It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

I also really loved this quote too.  It was so perfect for Shelli!

She not only saw the light at the end of the tunnel, she became that light for others.

And as for the pictures, they are fun because if you look closely, you will notice that Shelli is in each one!  Ha ha!

Sharon printed out a picture of Shelli’s head and put it on a popsicle stick so we could all take our picture with her.  Too much fun!

So, I hope that gives you some new ideas for creating with your journals as well as a neat idea for sending a little sunshine to someone you love.  It doesn’t have to be fancy or over the top… it can be as simple as a note, a card, and a couple pictures; and you have something special and meaningful.

Founder’s Circle: An Amazing Finish to the Weekend

Well, I made it home and am still processing everything I learned, experienced, and was moved by over the last few days.  Founder’s Circle was an amazing experience that I can’t believe I was able to be a part of but I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

For anyone reading my blog who is a demonstrator or has considered becoming a demonstrator, I wanted to take a minute to tell you that it is totally possible for you to make it here too!  I always thought you had to be hitting incredibly high sales or building a team of 50/100/200 demonstrators to be able earn an award like this, but I’m here to tell you that you don’t.  Have a passion for what you do, share it with others and help your business grow.  If you have questions about how you can have an experience like this, send me an email at jennifer@nwstamper.com (or chat with your upline if you are a demo) and I’d be happy to share with you how you can do it too!

Saturday was our last official day of activities.  Most of the day was on our own, and so after a few late nights, I got to sleep in and then headed downstairs to eat and spend some time chatting with the other talented and savvy ladies here.

I started working on our Make & Take projects but kept chatting too much and ended up only finishing 3/4 of one!

Founders Circle make and take tables

I also hung out with some of the fabulous Stampin’ Up! home office staff, like the super sweet Andrea Withers!

Finally, in the afternoon we all boarded the buses to head to the final event.  We had no idea where we were going or what we were doing.

Turns out we were headed to Staheli Farm.  The buses dropped us of and we got a hayride through the farm.

Founders Circle farm event

We broke back up into our teams from the first day and had the first couple hours to do a bunch of activities for fun and prizes!

We visited the petting zoo:

This rooster was fine when we were in groups, but he totally chased me when I came back on my own!  Who knew roosters were so territorial with people. Smile

We petted goats (well some of us did anyway):

Jumping on the “jumping pillow”.  (That is Julie Davison, me, and Mary Fish flying all over the place!)

We played Bingo, milked a pretend cow, played horseshoes, wandered a corn maze, and got to lasso a “cow”!

I caught mine!!

Then we headed into the barn for dinner.  At each place was a horseshoe with a note from Shelli Gardner thanking up for being there and wishing us luck for the coming year.

Awww… I know, isn’t that so sweet?

Founders Circle final dinner

Then we hung out and listened to the cowboys play a concert as the sun set.  It was super cool and about that time I discovered my phone could do panorama photos and so I had to play with that. Smile

As a special gift while we were there… we were given a new product that is hopefully going to be released later this week.  It is the Everyday Occasions kit and it is aimed for someone who hasn’t stamped before.  It contains a thin clear block, a stamp set, 2 ink spots, and the paper, die cuts, and accessories to make 20 cute cards.  They may sell these in retail locations but I think they will be available online as well.  I’ll share pictures later this week with the cards you can make – and they are pretty cute!

Everyday occasions Stampin Up kit

So we got back to the hotel and I thought the Everyday Occasion was our final gift but to my surprise, there was one more pillow gift waiting for me.

They started a tradition last year where when you attend Founder’s Circle for the first time you get a bracelet with a charm.  Each time you make it back you will receive a new charm for that year.  It is such a sweet touch and I hope with hard work I’ll be able to be back in the future and earn another charm for my bracelet.

And then instead of packing, a large group of us congregated at the hot tub and sat outside for hours chatting and sharing about our lives, our businesses, and our experience here.  It was awesome.

I tried to pack when I got back to my room around midnight but after an hour I realized that I wasn’t going to fit!  See, I came to Founder’s Circle with only a carry-on bag and a purse.  But look at how spoiled we were (not including the new product I can’t show in a picture)

The gifts were great, but honestly the conversation and the people were even better.  So, I encourage everyone to work at building your Stampin’ Up! business in a balanced way and hopefully you too can make it here soon!

Sunday it was a crazy morning –

  • heading to Target to buy an extra bag (Smile),
  • missing the bus to the airport (thankfully the hotel was kind enough to give me a ride so I could catch up with my suitcase that was on the bus)
  • making sure my carryon bag wasn’t overweight (which it thankfully wasn’t)
  • and spending a little more time with the girls I had gotten to know over the last 5 days.

I spent all of my time on the airplane taking notes, writing down the perspective I had gained on this trip, how I had become passionate about helping the girls in my Fun n’ Crafty stampers group feel empowered and recognized for all the little ways they work and make ground in their business – and helping other demonstrators feel that way too!

Then, when we landed in Seattle and I was getting excited to see my husband and kids, I looked out the window and saw a rainbow coming through the clouds to greet me at the airport.

It was the most perfect way to end an amazing weekend!

Rainbow at the end of Founders Circle 2013

So, thanks for visiting and sharing my experience this week at Founder’s Circle!  I still have more ideas, projects, and inspiration to share over the coming weeks, but I’m glad you came by now to see a little of what this adventure was like.

If you have any questions or need a little encouragement, don’t hesitate to reach out and say hello!  You can find me on Facebook or shoot me an email at jennifer@nwstamper.com.

Founder’s Circle 2013 Day 3–Making stamps and more!

Yesterday was another busy day out here in St. George for Founder’s Circle.  It is all I can do to take it all in and not only soak up the experiences but also try to figure out how I can use this time to better focus & make sure I have the right perspective for my stamping business.

I also have been trying to find ways to use my time and exposure to some of the Stampin’ Up! corporate team to help share the feelings, needs, and opinions of my customers and fellow demonstrators who may not be in the top 100 in the company but are just wanting to enjoy the Stampin’ Up! experience and begin to build a fun business that makes them happy, fufilled, and makes money to boot!  This is just such a powerful thing to be able to create amazing things and share that experience and heartfelt feelings with others.

If you can’t tell, coming to Founder’s Circle has turned out to be a more powerful and emotional experience than I expected!

Anyway, I’m sure you are here for the pictures, so let me share a bit of what Day 3 was like!

So, we started out bright and early to do a 90 min drive to Kanab, UT where Stampin’ Up! has their manufacturing facility.  When we arrived, there were employees waiting for us outside with signs and amazing smiling faces.

On of the other demos commented that one of the heartwarming parts for her was the Kanab employees cheering for us when we arrived.  It felt great, but I have to say I felt like we ought to be cheering for them! Smile  They are the ones making and packaging the products we love and I am so grateful they love doing it because I love using everything!

Once inside we got to do Make & Takes, visit the Gardner apartment, and take a tour of the facility.

I was so greatful for the kind Josee Smuck who adopted me for the day and made sure I always had friends to hang out with.  So, I hung out a lot with some fabulous Canadian Demonstrators.

The Gardner apartment is a good sized apartment above the facility for when Shelli and her family are visiting Kanab, or if any of the home office employees are traveling to Kanab, they can stay here as well.  It was the cutest!

And while Shelli couldn’t be here due to her injury, Sara Douglas (her daughter and up-and-coming face for Stampin’ Up!) was here and always so open and willing to chat about just about anything!

Then our tour for making stamps, ink pads, ink refills and paper!

Fun Fact – To make an ink pad, they start with the foam bases and then dump 100 of them into a big mixing bowl.  Then they pour in the ink liquid and then put it in a big mixer… like your Kitchen Aid mixer at home!  Mix for 2 minutes and you have an inked pad!

I took so many pictures of the manufacturing processes that I’ll be creating another post to share that experience another time.

Then we had a delicious BBQ lunch and then were off to a nearby park where many of the rubber scrap pieces have been chopped up and used for mulch under the play structures.

You can even see some stamp impressions still in the rubber!

Then it was back on the bus for a brief shopping stop and then the 90 minute drive back to Kanab.  We had a brainstorming session on the way to Kanab and so the way back was all about fun and prizes!  We played Bingo and I won Talking Tags (which I had totally forgotten we had!)

All of this took most of the day and by the time we got back to the hotel, we had just a little bit of time to freshen up and grab dinner before the optional theater excursion to Tuacahn.

I originally hadn’t signed up to go to the show (Mary Poppins) but everyone kept telling me how amazing the theater was that I just had to find a ticket and go.

They were right!  The experience was so different and so cool from what you typically see at the big theaters at home.  Plus, they could even shoot off fireworks during the performance to add to the emersive effect!

We got back to our hotel rooms around midnight and I was completely toast.  But there was another adorable pillow gift waiting for us.

I hadn’t checked a bag on the way here but its looking like I’m going to be checking a bag home!  I don’t have these Stampin’ Up! craft scissors but I’ve been wanting to get some for a while.  So there is NO WAY I’m going to leave them here, so looks like I’m checking a bag home. Smile

Now its time to take more project pictures, finish my Founder’s Circle make & takes, and get ready for our last big (surprise) event tonight.  So, until then, have a great day!

Founder’s Circle Day 2: horses, swapping, & treats!

Alright, I’m really supposed to be sleeping right now given that I need to be up in 5 hours to eat and hop on a bus to the manufacturing plant in Kanab… but I just had to share with you some of the cool things I did and saw (including new product samples!!)  So, I’m going to try to make this quick, since you’ll soon learn that I cannot pare down photos to save my life. Winking smile

Oh, and if you want more realtime updates, make sure you visit my Facebook page where I post periodically throughout the day!

Ok, so the great thing about Thursday is that we didn’t have anything scheduled for most of the day.  No schedule = SLEEP IN!!  Some gals got up and went canyoneering at 6:30am and while I love rock climbing, I don’t think I could have gotten my butt up in time for that.  Instead, I had plans to go horseback riding in the afternoon – a much more civilized time.

So the morning was spent trying to meet more people and chat and socialize.  I also had to check out the Horseshoe Lounge (our hospitality suite) and it had grown overnight!

Horseshoe lounge Founders Circle 2013

There were now tons of couches, more treats, new project samples, make & take tables!

And they had special treats for us… a build-your-own-trail mix bar!  When I put together my crafting retreat, I’m totally stealing this idea!

Founders Circle trail mix bar

You can kind of see the little mason jars below the table, that is what we were given to fill up.  Here is my yummy jar I’ve been munching on all day… I missed lunch so I was really grateful I had it!

Finally, each day we get to toss a horseshoe for prizes.  Depending on where your horseshoe lands in the pit, you get 1 of 3 prizes (today I won Eastern Elegance designer paper; yesterday I won Silver Taffeta ribbon); but if you get a ringer, you get all 3 prizes of the day!!  Here is hoping tomorrow I will finally have the technique down and get a ringer!

Founders Circle horseshoe toss for prizes

I retreated to my room to catch up on emails since I was woefully behind (if you have emailed me and still not gotten a response, please try again as you should have heard from my today otherwise!)  So, I got caught up and then it was time to head off for our trail ride.

I got the horse Jazzy to ride for the afternoon and he sure did have spunk!  But that made it fun.

I did the trail ride with the fabulous Lyssa Zwolanek, Christi Beck, and Karen Trelfa.  We went through trees and meadows and ended up an hour later overlooking an AMAZING canyon!

Jennifer Blomquist and Lyssa at Snow Canyon

The ride was great, but we ended up getting back to the hotel with 15 minutes to eat, change, grab our swaps, and get to the PJ party!  I managed the fastest shower in my life (just under 4 minutes) because I wanted to wash the dust off and made it just in time to listen to some great presentations by other demos.

I think the most powerful part for me was hearing these other very successful demonstrators talk about some of the same problems I was struggling with (life balance, pushing hard towards goals while still making sure family is a priority, trying to make sure their business was being run with the right intent behind it,etc.)  Tissue was flowing around the room as many of the women saw the same reflection in their lives.

But it ended on a lighter note as we headed into the halls to line up to swap.  With almost 120 of us, we literally stretched halfway across the hotel!

Then we finished the evening with some handmade ice cream sandwiches.  I tried the Snickerdoodle/Strawberry Cheesecake.  Yum!

Handmade ice cream sandwiches treat

Then more gabbing until we realized we had to get up pretty darn early to head to Kanab to visit the manufacturing plant and eat lunch with it’s employees.  (I CAN’T WAIT!!)

And back in our room was another pillow gift!  This time a cute wooden tube (that took me FOREVER to figure out how to open) and inside was a lovely infinity scarf.

You know, those scarves that have both ends sewn together to form a circle.  I have no idea how to wear one of those, but it looks comfy and cute.  So, hopefully I will get a lesson on using it or if you know how, leave me a comment and let me know! Smile

And finally, I just had to lay out all my swaps on my bed to see what all I got.  Um… I got a lot!!  This is almost 120 swap cards, and you should click on the picture to see it bigger so you can see the amazing cards and projects!

Alright, was that enough photos for you? Smile  I even cut down some.  But now it is time for me to crash.  My wakeup call comes in 4 hours and so time to grab as much sleep as I can.

I’ll be back with more soon!

Founders Circle 2013: What a Way to Start the Week!

Well, yesterday was my travel day to St. George, UT for the Founder’s Circle retreat getaway.  I was like a 6 yr old headed to Disneyland for the first time!  Seriously, I was trying not to bounce off the walls. Smile  And once I got here, it was even neater than I expected.  So, I wanted to share with you some of the fun I’ve experienced all ready so you can live the experience with me.

Are you ready?  Here we go!

One unexpected side effect of the retreat being held in St. George, is that most people fly into Salt Lake City and then catch a puddle-jumper flight to St. George itself.  That meant that our flight was at least half full of demos all headed to Founder’s Circle at the same time.  Can you say party plane?!  And check out the scenery from when we landed:

St George Airport for Founders Circle 2013View from St George airport

After picking up our luggage, we were bussed to our hotel where I discovered that we get the whole place to ourselves!  So, we were greeted by Stampin’ Up! staff and this cute decorated entryway

Founders Circle 2013 hotel entrance

Once inside I quickly found another first timer – Brandy Cox – and she and I stuck together as we took some pictures and checked everything out.  We headed to the Horseshoe Lounge (the themed hospitality suite) to play horseshoes for prizes and to pick up our yearbook and name badges.   Can you tell I’m excited to be here? Smile

Founders Circle 2013 Jennifer Blomquist yearbook and badge

I’ll admit I had a bit of stamping celebrity jitters when I saw all these people who I’ve followed online or listened to their videos and webinars.  We had a few hours to relax before dinner and I had no idea what to do.  But then I saw a table where Angie Juda and a couple other folks were working on finishing up their swaps for the Thursday night event.  I decided to dive right in and offered to help Angie assemble her swap boxes.

As we kept working and gabbing, more people stopped by to chat and then started helping.  Soon we had a table full of folks crafting and chatting.  It was like an old fashioned quilting bee!  So fun!

Working on swaps with Sandi MacIver and Angie Juda

(our group – Tamra Davis, Sandi MacIver, Angie Juda, Franci Martin, Karen Trelfa, and Brena Keenan)

Finally it was dinner time and they continued spoiling us here!  The tables were so cute!  And the lemonade with peach slices and blueberries was delicious!

Those little jars on our plates were local Raspberry Jam from a nearby farm… decorated, of course, with Stampin’ Up! ribbon and a digitally designed label.

Oh, and did I mention my tablemates??  They had us grouped by candy names and so we were the Chick-o-Sticks!

That is right! I was sitting with Jackie Ross, (me), Julie Davison, Sharon Armstrong, Ronda Wade, and Mary Fish!!  What an awesome group of ladies!

I also have to share a funny story.  Last weekend in San Diego, I was asked if I had presented at convention.  I said nope and the person decided she had probably just seen my blog.  Well, earlier in the day at Founders, I had twice been either asked if I was Julie or someone thought I had done a webinar for Stampin’ Up!  Well, when I saw Julie Davison, I realized that she was the person I was being mistaken for!  She has presented at convention and done a webinar, and after being a demo for 11 years has the title of Executive.  What a great person to be mistaken for!  Oh, and did I say she is the sweetest person to boot!

What do you think?  Think we could be twins?

Oh my, this post is getting long!  Ok, so I’ll try to finish up quick!

After dinner was a meeting with some Stampin Up execs for all the first time acheivers… aren’t we a fun looking bunch?

There were first timers who had been demos for 2-1/2 years to some who had been demos for 18!  So anyone can do this!

Then back up to my room – yup, I get a room to myself!  And the cute chalkboard name plate on all of our doors.

Founders Circle door name tag

And on our bed was a pillow gift for the first night.  I wish I could share with you the insides but they are all brand new, not even in a catalog yet, stamping products!  But there is some cool stuff and if you are a fan of gold, you will be really happy with what will be coming your way in the future!

And finally, I had to share a close up of the tag – I think this is a motto I need to start living more by:

Do what you love & do it often

What an amazing first day and such inspiration to be around all these ladies who love stamping, love creating, and love sharing it with others.  It is a reminder how much this is a way to reach out to other people and touch their lives when you send a card, preserve a memory, or create a handmade gift for someone.

So, I hope you have a wonderful day and I’ll be back tonight with more to share!
